A quarantine was imposed in North Carolina in 1988 to regulate the movement of articles, which could potentially harbor life stages of gypsy moth, to unregulated areas. Regulated, or quarantined areas, in North Carolina include the following:

All of Currituck County and;

That portion of Dare County located on the Outer Banks, east of the Currituck Sound, and north of the town of Kitty Hawk and State Road 1208 (Kitty Hawk Road).
