Area youths win at Turkey Show

FLETCHER – Grand Champions at the Youth Heritage Market Turkey Show from Saturday, September 19 at the NC Mountain State Fair were Nathan Brown and Anna Reeves, both of Buncombe County. Brown showed the best tom while Reeves showed the best hen.  
Reserve Grand Champions from the show were Tucker Worley of Buncombe County and Chris Mackey of Madison County. Worley won for his tom and Mackey for his hen.

Competition was open to all North Carolina youths under the age of 19. Exhibitors raised their turkeys from poults, and from the same hatch as all other exhibitors. The NC Mountain State Fair sold turkeys to exhibitors.

Farm Bureau was the show’s sponsor and provided premiums to both Grand and Reserve Grand Champions. Ingles Markets agreed to buy the turkeys after the show for market value since the show was an end show and donate the processed birds to MANNA Food Bank.
